Gate Hakima Police Station SHO Baljinder Singh told ANI that police were informed the previous night by the victim's father, Sunil Sabharwal. According to the SHO, Amit had arrived outside the home with a friend, and their Activa scooter was parked outside, when three brothers from the same neighbourhood — Abhi Shah, Sunny Shah and Hritik Shah — arrived and asked for the scooter to be moved to the side.

An argument followed, after which, according to the SHO, Abhi Shah allegedly fired about five to six rounds from a pistol at Amit Sabharwal, killing him. The shooting is an allegation named by police against the accused, who have not been arrested and whose version has not been reported.

The SHO said police were examining footage of the incident and that raids were being conducted. "No arrests have been made yet. Raids are being conducted, and the perpetrators will soon be apprehended," he told ANI.

The Tribune also reported on Saturday that a youth was shot dead over a minor dispute in Amritsar.

The killing drew political reactions on X. BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu, in a post on X quoted by ANI, said law and order had "completely collapsed" in Punjab and asked when Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who also holds the home portfolio, would take responsibility — that is Bittu's stated view, not an established finding. SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia also attacked the state government in a post on X, as quoted by ANI. No government response was included in the agency report.
