The announcement was posted by the official Punjab Police account and by the Director General of Police, Punjab (@dgp_punjabpolice), along with a photograph of the 16 recovered pistols laid out with a Commissionerate Police Amritsar (CP-ASR) placard.

According to the police, preliminary investigation links the accused to a foreign-based handler who allegedly supplied illegal weapons to criminal elements. That link is the police's claim at this stage; it has not been independently established, and the investigation is continuing.

Police said FIRs have been registered at Police Station Cantonment and Police Station Gate Hakima in Amritsar, and that further investigation is under way to establish the networks' backward and forward linkages.

The two juveniles among those apprehended have not been named, and no identifying details about them were given in the police announcement. Awaaz Punjab does not identify minors in police cases.
