Police said preliminary investigation indicates the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler, who was facilitating illegal arms consignments meant to be supplied further to criminal elements. The handler link and the intended onward supply are police allegations at this stage; further investigation is underway to establish the complete network and its backward and forward linkages, the DGP said.

A report credited to India Today identified the three arrested men as Daljit Singh, Gurjant Singh and Arshdeep Singh, from villages in Amritsar district, and said Counter Intelligence teams intercepted them near the Fatehgarh Shukarchak underpass while they were on a black motorcycle. According to that report, police say the weapons had been dropped by a drone across the border and were meant to be handed over to another group, and a case was registered on Tuesday under the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Awaaz Punjab is reporting these operational details as reported claims attributed to police, not as established facts.

Police have not said that the three operations are linked, and Awaaz Punjab is not treating them as the same network.
