Those arrested have been identified as Mahinder Singh and Kulwant Singh, both residents of Mustafabad in Amritsar, the DGP said. According to the DGP, the input said the two accused were heading toward the Amritsar-Batala Road to deliver the consignment to another party. Acting on the input, police teams conducted a raid and arrested both suspects near the Mudhal Bypass, and recovered 5 kg of heroin during a search, he said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were allegedly procuring heroin consignments from unidentified associates and supplying them to other parties in the state, the DGP said. Those trafficking claims are police allegations at this stage; further investigation is underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages in the case, identify other persons involved and dismantle the wider network, he added.

A case, FIR No. 71 dated November 1, 2026, under sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, has been registered at Police Station State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar. The DGP described the operation as part of the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state under the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. DD News Punjabi also reported the bust in its broadcast on Sunday.
