According to the police announcement, preliminary investigation indicates that the accused were allegedly in contact with a foreign-based handler who was facilitating illegal arms consignments for distribution through an organised network. That handler link is a police claim based on preliminary investigation; it has not been independently verified. The announcement was carried on the official Punjab Police account and in a parallel post by the Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab account, which carried the same figures and the same evidence photograph showing the seized pistols and two tied bags.
