In the first operation, a CIA-1 team intercepted a pickup vehicle near Jethuke village and recovered 4.5 kilograms of opium. The two occupants — Gurdeep Singh, 33, of Khokhar village, and Harpal Singh alias Sonu, 47, of Rampura city — were arrested. Police said Gurdeep Singh was previously booked by Sangat police in connection with a 10-kilogram poppy husk recovery.

In the second operation, a team from Maur police station intercepted a car and seized 1.032 kilograms of opium. Ramanpreet Singh, 24, of Jogipur village in Patiala district, and Ranveer Singh alias Rana, 20, of Bhaini Bagha village in Mansa district, were arrested.

Police said Ramanpreet Singh allegedly supplied the contraband to Ranveer Singh. They added that Ramanpreet Singh faces a prior attempt-to-murder charge and had claimed to be enrolled at Punjabi University, Patiala — an assertion police said is still being verified.

Investigators said forward and backward linkages of both consignments are being examined to identify the wider supply chain. The cases add to the district police's ongoing action against drug trafficking in the Bathinda region.
