Two sons of a serving Bihar Police sub-inspector were shot by unidentified assailants near Siddharthpuri Colony in the Manpur area of Gaya late on Monday night, according to Patna Press and Nation Press. The younger brother, Ranu Singh, 30, died while being taken to hospital, while his elder brother Monu Singh, 32, sustained critical injuries and is being treated at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital in Gaya. Their father, Sudhanshu Shekhar, also known as Pintu Singh, is posted as a sub-inspector in Motihari. The family originally belongs to Jethian village under the Atri police station area of Gaya district and has been living in Siddharthpuri Colony in Manpur for several years.
According to the family, a dispute had broken out between some people in the neighbourhood and the brothers were called to the spot by phone to intervene; shots were fired after they arrived near Nauranga Aahar. Officers from Mufassil (Muffasil) police station reached the scene and recovered empty cartridges — Nation Press reported three spent casings. Nation Press also reported that two suspects have been detained and are being questioned; Patna Press's initial report said police were questioning people and working to identify who called the brothers to the location and who fired the shots.
A gambling-linked dispute has been speculated as a possible motive, but police have NOT officially confirmed any motive; investigators are also examining a personal dispute or previous enmity. The precise sequence of events is yet to be established, and the investigation is continuing. Sources: Patna Press; Nation Press.
