Gautam Sharan, Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Patna, said the action followed a complaint by Amit Kumar, a resident of the Sahebpur Kamal police station area, who alleged that the ASI had demanded money in exchange for removing his name from a criminal case. After a preliminary verification confirmed the demand, case No. 127/26 was registered at the Vigilance police station and a trap was laid on Monday.

According to DSP Gautam Sharan, the amount was settled at Rs 29,000 after negotiations, and the entire amount was recovered from the ASI's possession during the operation. The underlying case related to a four-wheeler owned by the complainant that had been seized in connection with a liquor-smuggling case; the ASI had claimed he had already sold the vehicle, and allegedly demanded the bribe to remove the complainant's name from that case.
After the arrest, the vigilance team took the accused to the Begusarai Circuit House to complete legal formalities, and arrangements were made to take him to Patna for further proceedings. The allegations are under investigation and have not been proved in court.
