Bihar's Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Tuesday morning launched simultaneous searches at four premises linked to Ruby Kumari, District Programme Officer (DPO) of the Education Department under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Kishanganj, in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets case, Patna Press reported.

According to local reports, the searches covered the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan office at Ruidhasa and Kumari's rented accommodation in the Line Mohalla area of Kishanganj, her ancestral home in Officers Colony in Katihar, and a private apartment or house in Katihar. Teams were examining property documents, bank accounts and financial transactions.

The action was taken in Economic Offences police station case number 31/26 after a search warrant was obtained from the Special Vigilance Court in Patna, Dinman Times reported. The operation was led by officers of Deputy Superintendent of Police rank, and Kumari's husband Gaurav Kumar is also named in the case, the report said.

Preliminary findings cited in the reports put the allegedly disproportionate assets at Rs 2,45,84,000 (about Rs 2.46 crore) — around 87.49 per cent more than the couple's known sources of income. Patna Press reported that investigators had identified 11 land purchases in Katihar district made between 2018 and 2025, and were examining the documents to establish the source of funds.

EOU Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohammad Janifuddin confirmed that the raids had been carried out and said a detailed investigation was under way, according to Kadwa Satya. The EOU had not, at the time of reporting, issued a detailed statement on documents or assets recovered during the searches.

These are allegations at the stage of investigation. No court has made any finding against Kumari or her husband, and further details are expected once the EOU completes its examination of the records seized during the searches.
