Patna: Sanjit Kumar, alias Bhalu, the Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) president who was shot in Maner's Byapur village on Sunday night, has succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said on Monday. Pintu Kumar, the husband of Maner Block Pramukh Rinki Devi, who was also shot in the attack, remains in critical condition.

The attack took place at around 9:30 pm on Sunday in Byapur village, under the Maner police station area of Patna district. According to police, Sanjit Kumar and Pintu Kumar were sitting at a house in the village when four assailants arrived on two motorcycles and opened fire. Sanjit Kumar was hit in the chest, while Pintu Kumar sustained bullet injuries to his legs. Both men were rushed to a private hospital near Saguna Mor in Danapur, where Sanjit Kumar died during treatment on Monday morning.

Danapur SDPO Amarendra Kumar Jha said preliminary findings suggest a longstanding enmity and electoral rivalry could be behind the attack, while stressing that the motive has not yet been conclusively established. An FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area, and a forensic (FSL) team has collected evidence from the spot as officers work to identify the assailants, who fled immediately after the shooting.
