Patna (Maner), October 19: A Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) president was shot dead and the husband of the Maner block chief was critically injured after four unidentified assailants on two motorcycles opened fire in Byapur village, under Maner police station in Patna district, on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Sanjit Kumar, alias Bhalu, the PACS president. Pintu Kumar, 37, husband of Maner Block Pramukh Rinki Devi, sustained bullet injuries to his legs and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital near Saguna Mor in Danapur.

According to police, the two men were sitting on the porch of a house at around 9:30 pm when the assailants arrived from the main road and opened fire. Sanjit Kumar was hit in the chest and succumbed to his injuries during treatment, while Pintu Kumar remains in critical condition. The attackers fled immediately after the shooting.

Danapur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amarendra Kumar Jha said preliminary findings suggest the attack could be linked to a longstanding enmity and electoral rivalry spanning multiple election cycles, but the motive has not yet been conclusively established. He said police forces are deployed in the area and all angles are being investigated.

Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation. A forensic (FSL) team collected evidence from the spot, officers are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailants, and raids are being conducted, police said.
