Ravindra Kishore Sinha, the founder of the SIS Group and a former Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar, died on Friday at his residence in Noida. He was 75. Family sources told PTI that he died after a brief illness. BJP leaders and Union ministers condoled his death, remembering his contributions to politics, journalism, industry and social service.

Born on September 22, 1951, in Bihar's Bhojpur region, Sinha spent his formative years in Patna, where he received his early education and began his career as a journalist. In 1974, he founded Security and Intelligence Services (SIS) in Patna, starting from a small garage with the aim of providing employment to ex-servicemen returning to civilian life after the 1971 war.

He built SIS from that modest venture into one of India's leading private security service organisations and a listed, professionally managed group. SIS informed the National Stock Exchange and BSE on Friday of the demise of its Founder and Chairman Emeritus, saying its board and management had expressed their deepest condolences and placed on record their appreciation for his contribution, visionary leadership and enduring association with the company.

A founding member of the BJP

Sinha was associated with the Bharatiya Jana Sangh before the formation of the BJP in 1980 and was counted among the party's founding members. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar in 2014 as a BJP candidate and served in the Upper House from April 10, 2014 to April 9, 2020. He also served on the party's national executive committee.

BJP President Nitin Nabin said Sinha was like a guardian to him and that his demise was a personal loss, PTI reported. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the news of the senior leader's demise was extremely heartbreaking. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal called his passing an irreparable loss for the BJP family and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

According to family sources cited in Patna reports, his mortal remains will be brought to Patna, where people will be able to pay their last respects at Annapurna Bhawan in the Patliputra locality. The detailed schedule of the final rites was awaited.
