Four armed men allegedly looted jewellery worth around Rs 3 crore from Kanchan Jewellers near Mahatma Gandhi Chowk in the Koath police station area of Bihar's Rohtas district on Tuesday, after tying up the shop owner, employees and customers and holding them hostage for approximately two hours, according to the shop owner and police who visited the scene.

Shop owner Suraj Verma said he opened the shop at around 11 am on Tuesday. After a few customers arrived, four men allegedly entered one after another. According to Verma, one of the men asked to buy a silver coin priced at Rs 700 but paid only Rs 500; when a staff member asked for the remaining Rs 200, the man allegedly pulled out a pistol.
Owner, staff and customers held inside
The accused allegedly threatened Avinash Kumar, who was sitting at the counter, and assaulted Verma's uncle when he tried to intervene. The owner, three staff members and three customers were then tied up and held inside as the men collected gold and silver jewellery from the display racks and took cash belonging to customers. The robbers reportedly lowered the shop's shutter so no one else could enter.
Before leaving, the accused allegedly demanded to know where the CCTV system's digital video recorder (DVR) was kept, and, according to Verma, one of them pointed a pistol at Avinash Kumar's head to make him reveal its location. The men removed the DVR and fled with the stolen valuables on a motorcycle. People inside raised an alarm only after the robbers had escaped.
Police reach the spot, examine area CCTV
Rohtas Superintendent of Police Roshan Kumar, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer-II Sanjeev Kumar and Koath police station in-charge Pramod Kumar reached the scene. Police are examining CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the area to identify the suspects, since the shop's own DVR was taken. According to the report, police received information about the robbery about three hours after the incident, and the SP assured that the accused would be identified and arrested within a week. No arrests had been reported at the time of publication.
The same shop was targeted on the night of August 25, 2025, when unidentified offenders allegedly cut through its shutter and stole jewellery valued at about Rs 5.20 crore. Two suspects were reportedly arrested in that case, but the main accused had not been apprehended. Police have not established any connection between the two incidents so far.
