The accused was identified as Vikrant Kumar, alias Vicky Tomar, a resident of Vazidpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district. The case was registered following a complaint by Constable Shiwani of Delhi Police, and FIR No. 271/2026 was registered on September 8 under Sections 318(4), 316(2) and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to police.

According to the police account, the accused first approached the constable on Instagram under the pretext of seeking guidance regarding recruitment to Delhi Police through the sports quota. The conversation then shifted to WhatsApp, where he allegedly portrayed himself as a prominent figure in cricket and persuaded her to invest money by promising high returns.

Trusting those assurances, the complainant allegedly transferred her savings from her Axis Bank account, took a personal loan of Rs 12 lakh and borrowed additional money from acquaintances, taking the total allegedly cheated to approximately Rs 24 lakh. Of that total, around Rs 8 lakh was transferred to bank accounts linked to the online betting platform 1x.com, allegedly at the accused's direction, police said.

Investigators said they are examining the financial transactions to establish the complete money trail and determine whether other individuals or accounts were involved in the alleged fraud. Reports citing police said investigators suspect nearly 20 women constables from the same batch may have been targeted with marriage promises and investment offers, and that many of them are yet to file formal complaints — that wider figure is a police suspicion at this stage, not a set of filed cases.

Police sources cited in other reporting said the accused allegedly used rented luxury cars for short durations and an Instagram image of a lavish lifestyle to build trust. The complaint also includes an allegation of inappropriate touching during an in-person meeting; all of these are allegations in a police case that has not been tested in court, and the investigation is continuing.
