The Cyber Police Station of Delhi's North-East district has arrested two men in connection with an alleged cyber-fraud case involving a reported loss of Rs 22.50 lakh (yaani twenty-two and a half lakh rupees), and seized four mobile phones from them, police said on Wednesday, October 21, news agency IANS reported.
The case was registered under FIR No. 0011/2026, dated April 29, under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), following a complaint by Amit Kumar. According to the complaint, he was induced to invest through an online platform called 'E-Seller Store' by individuals operating through a Facebook profile under the name 'Naha Sharma', and transferred money on multiple occasions on the promise of returns, losing Rs 22.50 lakh in all.
Police said that while analysing the transaction trail, they found that a bank account in the name of Raj Kumar had received Rs 1 lakh of the suspected proceeds. Raj Kumar, 34, a resident of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on October 17 and one mobile phone was seized from him. Police said he disclosed during interrogation that he had opened the account at the request of his brother-in-law, Vipin Kumar, in exchange for Rs 15,000, and had handed over the ATM card, bank kit, related documents and the registered mobile connection to him. These disclosures are police allegations and have not been proven in court.
Based on that lead and further technical analysis, police arrested Vipin Kumar, 29, also of Mathura, from Tappal in Uttar Pradesh on October 18, recovering three mobile phones from him. Police said he disclosed that he had handed the account instruments on to another person and admitted to procuring and supplying other bank accounts in exchange for money and commission. Police said both accused had no previous criminal involvement on record. Further investigation is under way to establish the wider network allegedly involved, identify other suspects and trace the remaining proceeds, police said.
