New Delhi, Oct 27: The Coordination Committee of the Delhi Bar Association, which abstained from judicial work across Delhi's district courts on Tuesday, has now called for an indefinite abstention from judicial work in protest against the registration of an FIR at Shahdara Police Station against advocates and alleged threats to advocates by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, ANI reported on Tuesday evening.

Awaaz Punjab reported on Tuesday morning that Delhi's district court lawyers had shut the courts for a one-day strike over the same Shahdara dispute. Tuesday evening's circular escalates that one-day action into an indefinite abstention. Read the earlier report
According to the Committee's earlier circular, the dispute began with an FIR over an incident on October 23 in which advocate Lalit Bansal sustained a serious head injury in an assault; advocate Amulya Ratan is the complainant in that matter. The circular said advocates visited Shahdara police station on the evening of October 23 seeking legal action, and that the ACP and the SHO assured them the persons named would be arrested.

The Committee said the advocates learnt on October 24 that the persons concerned had reportedly been released and had not been arrested, and that when advocates approached the police station to raise their concerns, ACP Manasvi Vashishta allegedly threatened and intimidated them. These are the bar committee's allegations; the reports carried no response from Delhi Police, and the FIR registered against advocates at Shahdara is also part of the dispute as described by the Committee.
