According to police, the robbery took place on August 27 within the jurisdiction of the M.S. Park police station, and an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators say the crime was allegedly planned by an interstate syndicate, with an internal informant passing on details of the cash movement.

The investigation was led by SHO Rajesh Kumar Mishra, under the supervision of ACP Seemapuri Mukesh Kumar and Shahdara DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena, using technical surveillance and field operations. In the initial phase, police arrested five men — Pranjay Tiwari, Sarab Tiwari alias Praful, Gaurav Tiwari, Ambrish Tiwari alias Chanchal and Ram Jeet — and recovered Rs 3.90 lakh, a car and three mobile phones.

Police said Satyam remained absconding while raids were conducted in Uttar Pradesh. Acting on specific intelligence, officers recovered Rs 22.51 lakh from his 19-year-old sister in Erul village in Sultanpur district; she was bound down under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita for allegedly facilitating concealment of the cash. Satyam was formally arrested on October 16 after being brought from Uttar Pradesh on a production warrant, and during four days of police custody he led investigators to the Haliyapur-Kurwar Road near Gomti Kurwar Bridge in Sultanpur, where a pistol with a magazine was recovered from roadside bushes on October 18. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.

Police have alleged specific roles for each accused: Pranjay Tiwari as the internal informant who leaked the cash movement, Sarab Tiwari as the link to the execution team who arranged safe houses in Gurugram, Ambrish Tiwari as the man who snatched the bag, Gaurav Tiwari as the man who arranged accommodation and surveillance, and Ram Jeet as the getaway driver. Police said Satyam and Sarab have previous criminal cases in Uttar Pradesh, and Ambrish has a previous case in Bulandshahr district. All allegations are yet to be proved in court.
