The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a medicine specialist at Delhi's Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Pitampura and a contractual supervisor for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh (one lakh rupees), officials said. The doctor, Dr Harender Kumar, also held the additional charge of nodal officer for outsourcing in the hospital's medicine department, while the second accused, Pradeep Kumar, works as a contractual supervisor (nursing orderly).

According to the CBI, the bribe was allegedly demanded from a complainant in exchange for ensuring that a tender awarded to him was not cancelled, that his bills were cleared on time, and that no adverse observations — described by the agency as 'red flags' — were raised in his file. These are allegations made by the agency and have not been proved in court.

The agency said it registered a case following the complaint and laid a trap on October 21, during which the doctor was allegedly caught red-handed accepting the bribe through the contractual supervisor. Both accused were apprehended at the hospital in northwest Delhi.
