According to Delhi Police, the appellant was associated with the Neeraj Bawana gang and shot dead Rajesh Durmuth, described by police as a member of a rival gang, when Durmuth was brought for a court hearing by the Haryana Police. The gang association is the police's account, as reported by ANI.
A Division Bench of Justices Prathiba M. Singh and Dinesh Bhatt refused to suspend the sentence after hearing arguments. The court noted that the appellant had fired outside the court and shot dead a person who was in police custody, and it was also informed that he was named in other cases.

Appearing for the appellant, Advocate Parveen Dabas submitted that his client has been in custody for seven years and nine months and pointed to alleged lapses in the investigation, saying residue samples were taken but not sent for forensic examination. He also said four other accused arrested in the case were discharged by the trial court.
Additional Public Prosecutor Ritesh Bahri opposed the suspension plea, submitting that the convict had shot a prisoner in Haryana Police custody, was named in other cases, and was booked in another case in Jhajjar, Haryana, while he was on interim bail in this case, and therefore should not be released.
The High Court has listed the appeal against the judgment and sentence for hearing in January 2027. The appellant is not being named in this report because he was a minor at the time of the offence.
