Delhi Police have apprehended six people, including two minors, within hours of a fatal stabbing in northeast Delhi's Seelampur area, officials said on Wednesday, according to IANS. The victim, Subhan, 20, a resident of the Noor Ilahi area, died while undergoing treatment at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
Police said information was received at Seelampur police station at around 10.48 p.m. on Tuesday from Jag Pravesh Chandra (JPC) Hospital in Shastri Park about a man admitted with stab injuries. Subhan was found unconscious and was referred to GTB Hospital. His friend Mohsin, 30, told police that at around 9 p.m. the two were smoking in Central Park when five to six unidentified boys objected, leading to an altercation during which the boys allegedly attacked Subhan with a knife before fleeing — the account Mohsin gave police, as reported.
A case was registered at Seelampur police station, initially under attempt-to-murder provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS); after Subhan's death was confirmed, the murder provision, Section 103(1) of the BNS, was added, police said. A dedicated team led by Seelampur SHO Inspector Abhishek, under the supervision of ACP Sushil Kumar, analysed CCTV footage from around the scene and gathered evidence to identify the suspects.
The adults apprehended were identified by police as Aman Khan alias Arshu, 21, Afzal Khan, 18, and Shoaib Mirza, 18, all of New Seelampur, and Abdul Momin, 18, of Gautampuri. The other two are minors of around 17, treated as Children in Conflict with Law and not named. Police said they recovered a knife allegedly used in the attack and the clothes allegedly worn by the accused at the time. All allegations are yet to be tested in court, and police said further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events and each person's role.
