New Delhi, Oct 26: The Coordination Committee of All District Courts Bar Associations of Delhi has called upon advocates to abstain from judicial work across all district courts in the national capital on Tuesday, October 27, according to a circular dated October 26 cited by ANI and Live Law. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held through video conference on Monday to consider the circumstances surrounding the registration of an FIR against members of the Bar.

The committee has demanded the immediate suspension of Assistant Commissioner of Police Manasvi Vashishta and the concerned Station House Officer of Shahdara Police Station, pending an impartial inquiry. According to the account placed before the committee and reported by Live Law, the ACP allegedly displayed his revolver and threatened and intimidated the advocates present at the police station. These are allegations made in the committee's circular; they have not been established by an inquiry.

How the dispute began

According to the circular, the matter originated from an FIR concerning an incident in which advocate Lalit Bansal sustained a serious head injury following an assault, with advocate Amulya Ratan as the complainant, ANI reported. Law Trend reported the case as FIR No. 0248/2026 at Shahdara Police Station. The committee said the seriousness of the injury called for a prompt, effective and impartial response from the police.

Several advocates visited Shahdara Police Station on the evening of October 23 to seek legal action against the persons concerned, and the committee said the ACP and the SHO assured them that the persons named in the case would be arrested. On October 24, the advocates said they learnt that the persons concerned had not been arrested and had reportedly been released, after which advocates again approached the police station to raise concerns about the handling of the matter.

The Coordination Committee described the abstention as a collective institutional response and a demonstration of solidarity, saying advocates' lawful pursuit of justice must not become a cause for intimidation or confrontation, and it took note of what it called recurring concerns about high-handed conduct by police personnel towards members of the legal fraternity. No response from Delhi Police or from the officers named was carried in the ANI, Live Law or Law Trend reports at the time of publishing.
