North District Deputy Commissioner of Police Niharika Bhatt said Delhi Police registered the case at Sadar Bazar police station after learning of the incident through social media, with the police themselves becoming the complainant given the seriousness of the matter. The case was registered under Sections 192, 196, 352 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, she said.

Bhatt said multiple teams from North District conducted raids across Delhi and used technical surveillance before apprehending the accused, identified by police as Mohammad Amir, on Thursday. IANS reported he was arrested in the Karol Bagh area. These are allegations under investigation; no court has ruled on them.

Shokeen had earlier apologised after the video circulated and claimed in a Facebook post that the video was scripted and the man in it was known to him, IANS reported. He said he had no intention of insulting anyone.
