US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, from October 30 to 31 to host the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the US Department of State said in an official media note on Monday. Rubio will convene foreign ministers representing the world's leading economies to advance practical cooperation on key shared economic and security challenges, the department said.

Throughout the ministerial, the United States will work closely with G20 partners to address pressing geopolitical crises that continue to trigger global economic shocks, the State Department noted. According to the official release, the discussions will focus heavily on mitigating disruptions to supply chains, addressing threats to freedom of navigation, and ensuring energy and food security. The department framed the meeting as returning the G20 to its core economic mission of driving growth, strengthening economic security, and delivering results.

"Global security and economic prosperity are inextricably linked, and these discussions will set the stage for President Trump's G20 Leaders' Summit and the broader economic agenda that leaders will tackle," the State Department said. The Atlanta gathering will be the last major ministerial-level meeting of the grouping before Trump hosts the G20 Leaders' Summit in Miami in December, IANS reported. The State Department did not release a list of participating ministers or a schedule of bilateral meetings.

India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is expected to attend the Atlanta meeting. The Quad foreign ministers from India, the United States, Japan and Australia are also set to convene on the sidelines — a signal of the grouping's continued relevance to Indo-Pacific security architecture, Nation Press reported. It would be the second meeting of Quad foreign ministers in 2026, following the previous meeting hosted by India in May, and the ministers are expected to outline the agenda for the next Quad leaders' summit, planned for Manila in November on the sidelines of ASEAN-associated meetings, Channel News Asia-partner coverage reported.

The G20 groups 19 countries plus the European Union and the African Union. With wars and shipping threats still pushing up energy and food prices worldwide, the Atlanta agenda — navigation, energy, food and supply chains — goes straight to the costs households and businesses are paying, and the Quad sideline meeting keeps India at the centre of the Indo-Pacific conversation.
