Al-Shifa hospital said it received three bodies and treated eight people who were wounded in the Gaza City drone strike. Two sources at the Islamic University said those killed were administrative staff and the injured were students, according to the same report. Sweden Herald, reporting the same hospital account, also said three bodies were received and eight injured people were treated after the drone strike on the university.

Reached for comment, the Israeli military said it was looking into the reports. It did not confirm the strike or give its own account of what was targeted.

Gaza civil defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal said four other people were killed on Sunday — two in an airstrike in the southern city of Khan Younis, one in central Deir al-Balah and one in the north of the Strip. Those figures are the civil defence agency's account and have not been independently verified.

Separately, Al Jazeera reported, in coverage carried by LaPresse, that one of the people killed in the Deir al-Balah area was a child killed by gunfire. The child was not named in the reports, and Awaaz Punjab does not identify minor victims.

Education ministry condemns the strike

Gaza's education ministry said in a statement that the students had been present for classes. It condemned the strike and said: “The global silence regarding attacks on students and universities serves as encouragement for the continuation of these crimes.”

The ministry said the strike came at a time when the higher education sector was facing what it called “total annihilation”, with 95 percent of the buildings belonging to academic institutions damaged as a result of the war, according to its statement. It said that over the past six days, 10 students and educators had been killed. Those figures are the ministry's claims and are reported here as its account.

A truce has been in effect in Gaza for over a year, but it has failed to completely halt the violence there, with strikes and shootings continuing to be reported by both sides.
