Five Palestinians, including a young girl, were killed on Monday in Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, medical sources and first responders said, in reporting by AFP that Al Jazeera also carried. Civil defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told AFP that a total of 13 people had been killed and about 60 wounded by Israeli fire and airstrikes in Gaza in the past 24 hours. All casualty figures in this story are those reported by Gaza's civil defence and hospitals and are attributed as such.

"We transported three martyrs, including a child, following an Israeli airstrike targeting a camp for displaced people in the Al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Yunis," Bassal told AFP. Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis confirmed the three deaths and said several wounded people, including a child and a woman, had also been brought in for treatment. Gaza's civil defence said a fourth person was killed in an airstrike on a tent housing displaced Palestinians near Khan Yunis.
In Gaza City's Rimal neighbourhood, a third strike killed one person and injured three, according to the city's Al-Shifa Hospital, AFP reported. A security source in Gaza told AFP that several tanks and military vehicles, accompanied by a military bulldozer, advanced on Monday morning into the area west of the Yellow Line in the eastern part of Deir al-Balah, in central Gaza.
Israel's military response, and the ceasefire line
Israel's military told AFP it was "not aware" of any military activity in the Al-Mawasi area on Monday. After the US-brokered ceasefire took hold in Gaza in October 2025, the so-called Yellow Line was established to divide the areas under Israeli control — more than 60 per cent of the territory, according to AFP — from those under Hamas control. Killings reported during the ceasefire period have been a recurring point of dispute, with each side's accounts differing and independent verification in Gaza severely limited.
