The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has approved US$3.47 million in emergency funding to deliver essential tuberculosis (TB) and malaria diagnostics and medicines to eight Sudanese states severely affected by the ongoing conflict, the Fund said in a release from Geneva on October 23. Yaani: US$3.47 million is about 34.7 lakh dollars.

The new funds will procure diagnostic tools and medicines for people with malaria and TB in Darfur and Kordofan, among the regions most affected by conflict and violence, including first- and second-line medicines for drug-resistant TB, laboratory equipment including 20 portable near-point-of-care testing machines for TB, and rapid diagnostic tests and medicines for malaria, the Fund said. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will serve as the implementing partner.
The funding builds on US$1.6 million allocated through the Fund's Emergency Fund in March 2026 — yaani about 16 lakh dollars — which supported TB diagnosis and treatment for internally displaced people and host communities across 10 states, the Fund said. UNDP's implementing role in that earlier Sudan TB funding, working with the Federal Ministry of Health's National TB Programme and local organisations, was also reported by Breaking Africa News.
US$3.47 million (about 34.7 lakh dollars) for TB and malaria diagnostics and medicines in eight states, focused on Darfur and Kordofan, implemented by UNDP — building on US$1.6 million (about 16 lakh dollars) allocated in March 2026, the Global Fund said.
Sudan's crisis remains one of the largest humanitarian emergencies in the world. Since armed conflict erupted in April 2023, Sudan has become the country with the largest internally displaced population in the world, with approximately 8.8 million people currently displaced — yaani 88 lakh — and hundreds of health facilities destroyed, forced to close or rendered inaccessible, leaving millions without reliable access to essential health services, the Fund said.
Against that backdrop, disruptions to diagnosis and treatment can have devastating consequences, the Fund said: TB requires continuous treatment, while untreated malaria can rapidly become life-threatening, particularly for pregnant women and children.
