Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is preparing to unveil a weapon it calls the 'father of all bombs', IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said on Wednesday, according to Iranian media reported by ANI and Anadolu Agency. 'The United States has the Mother of All Bombs. We will show them the Father of All Bombs, and it will definitely be something new for them,' Mohebbi said, according to Iran's Student News Network (SNN). In separate remarks carried by the Young Journalists Club, he said: 'We are in the preparation stage to launch the father of all bombs. This is something new for the enemy.'
Mohebbi gave no details about the weapon — not its type, capabilities or launch date — and Tehran has provided no evidence or technical data for it, ANI and Anadolu both noted. The remark followed reports that US President Donald Trump has considered using the 22,000-pound (about 9,800 kg) GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, known as the 'Mother of All Bombs', against Iran's deeply buried Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility.
The IRGC spokesperson also claimed Iran's missile stockpile has increased 1.5 times since the 12-day war with Israel in June 2025, and that the missiles' range, destructive power and accuracy have improved significantly, Anadolu Agency reported via the Young Journalists Club. He provided neither stockpile figures nor technical data to substantiate those claims, so they are reported here as the IRGC's claims only.
Mohebbi said Iran is changing its defence doctrine towards a stronger, sustainable deterrent based on asymmetric warfare. 'If any country attacks us, we will not only retaliate, but also launch an offensive attack,' he said. The comments came as the New York Times reported that the US and Israeli militaries have drawn up plans for a possible short, intensive campaign against Iran after the US midterm elections — plans President Trump has not approved.
