A Russian drone strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv overnight wounded five people, including a four-year-old child, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said, in reporting carried by both the Associated Press and Reuters.

The jet-powered drone attack started a major fire that set alight an apartment building, a private house and an industrial building, the emergency services said. Euronews reported the fire spread across some 2,500 square metres in the city's Osnovianskyi district, damaging other apartment buildings, garages and cars, and that three of the five injured were taken to hospital while firefighters worked under the threat of further strikes.

Reuters separately reported the same strike and toll, citing the emergency service's Telegram statement, and said the major fire sparked by the attack was extinguished.

The wider night of war
The Kharkiv strike came on a night when Russia's Defence Ministry said its air defences downed 531 Ukrainian drones from late Tuesday through early Wednesday, and officials said apartment buildings and industrial infrastructure in two Russian regions were targeted, injuring five people — claims reported by AP that could not be independently verified in this reporting.
It also came while a rare local ceasefire in the Russian-occupied southern town of Oleshky, brokered with the involvement of US first lady Melania Trump, held for its first 30 hours to allow a humanitarian mission to reach about 2,000 stranded residents. The contrast underlines the pattern of the war: a small negotiated pause in one place, and continued strikes on cities elsewhere.
All casualty and damage figures in this story are as reported by Ukraine's State Emergency Service and regional officials via AP, Reuters and Euronews. Russia has not commented on the Kharkiv strike in these reports.
