The attack damaged homes, transportation infrastructure and other civilian sites in several districts of the city, Ukraine's State Emergency Service said. In the Dniprovskyi district, on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, one person was killed and six were wounded, including a child, as fires broke out, AP reported. Awaaz Punjab does not name or identify minor victims.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 15 people were wounded in the capital overnight, including two children, with eight treated in hospital, and that part of the metro running on the Southern Bridge over the Dnipro was damaged, according to live coverage by AnewZ citing the mayor's Telegram posts and a Reuters witness who reported missiles striking Kyiv in the early hours.
Zelenskyy: 21 missiles, 12 regions attacked
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia launched three waves totalling 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv since Wednesday evening, and that 12 Ukrainian regions came under attack overnight, with two people confirmed killed and 34 injured, including five children, across Kyiv and the regions, in a statement on X carried by AnewZ. "When Russia responds to negotiations with ballistic missiles, real pressure on Russia is needed," Zelenskyy said. Ukraine's foreign minister Andrii Sybiha said Moscow launched the attacks hours after President Vladimir Putin met US negotiator Steve Witkoff, adding: "Appeasement, servility, and flattery will not stop this war. Only strength will."
Russia's Defence Ministry said its forces struck factories and warehouses involved in the production and storage of missiles and drones overnight, as well as transport infrastructure in Kyiv, port infrastructure in the Odesa region and ships supporting the Ukrainian army — that is Moscow's account of the strikes, reported as such. Separately, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched 630 drones towards Moscow overnight and that Russia downed the vast majority, a Russian claim reported by AnewZ that has not been independently verified.
Strike hours after talks agreement
On Wednesday, Kremlin foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov said Putin agreed "in principle" to resume three-way negotiations involving Russia, the United States and Ukraine after November 10, a week after the US midterm election, AP reported. Putin had met US envoy Steve Witkoff in St Petersburg. Zelenskyy backed the push for new talks but was cautious, saying "We'll see what happens this time," shortly before missile alerts sounded over Kyiv, AP reported.
