THE HAGUE — The Netherlands will provide Ukraine with an additional €500 million in military aid, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten announced on Wednesday at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in The Hague, Ukrinform reported. Yaani, €500 million means 50 crore euros of military help — about 543 million US dollars — and it is separate from the €1.2 billion non-military package reported earlier today.

"Today I can also announce an additional military aid package worth €500 million. It includes, in particular, air defense systems and drones intended to protect against continuous Russian air attacks," Jetten said, adding that the Netherlands would continue to support Kyiv because Ukraine is fighting not only for itself but also for peace and security in Europe.

Zelenskyy thanked the Netherlands for the package, which is being prepared for delivery this autumn. "Thank you for the new military support package for Ukraine. Its value is €500 million. The package is being prepared now, this autumn. And this is truly significant, particularly for repelling Russian aerial attacks," he said.

Bliksem: a joint air-defence project

The two leaders also set their teams a joint task in air defence. "We have tasked our teams today with developing a specific project in the field of air defense — Bliksem. Work on the project has begun," Zelenskyy said at the press conference, describing the priorities the two countries identified together as defence manufacturing, joint technology projects, energy and industry, satellite technologies and air defence. He gave no technical specifications or timeline for Bliksem.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine's key shortfall right now is anti-ballistic missiles to intercept Russian ballistic missiles, which he said Russia is relying on heavily as winter approaches. The Netherlands will also help Ukraine improve the effectiveness of its F-16 jets in shooting down jet-powered drones, according to Ukrinform's reporting of the visit.

The Hague talks also covered preparations for the planned trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States and Russia in Abu Dhabi, and how Europe's position can be taken into account in that process, Ukraine Brief reported. The military announcement completes the Dutch package for the visit: €500 million for weapons and air defence, on top of the €1.2 billion in civilian, energy and reconstruction support announced the same day.
