At least eight passengers were killed and 32 others injured, including women and children, when a passenger bus overturned after colliding with a road divider on an under-construction section of the Indus Highway in Rajanpur district, in Pakistan's Punjab province, on Wednesday, the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported, citing rescue sources.

The bus was travelling from Karachi to Dera Ghazi Khan when the accident occurred near Bangla Hidayat, according to APP and Daily Jang reporting carried by Pakistani outlets. Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the site, pulled passengers from the wreckage and provided first aid. Daily Jang, attributing its figures to Rescue 1122, reported eight deaths at the scene and 32 injured — 20 injured passengers were transferred to hospital and 12 people with minor injuries were treated at the scene. Pakhtun Digital, also citing rescue and police officials, reported the same core toll of eight dead and 32 injured, and said seriously injured passengers were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Rajanpur and a tehsil headquarters hospital.

The toll has not yet been reconciled across outlets: Dunya News reported at least nine killed and 36 injured, Geo News reported the toll rising to 10, and Nation Press reported 10 killed and 44 injured. Awaaz Punjab is reporting the APP and Rescue 1122-based figure of eight killed and 32 injured as the confirmed core, and treats the higher figures as unreconciled reports until an incident-specific official statement is issued.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, APP reported. Pakhtun Digital said an initial police assessment suggested over-speeding and driver fatigue may have contributed, after a long non-stop journey from Karachi — that assessment is preliminary and has not been presented as a final finding. Heavy machinery was used to remove the overturned bus and the Indus Highway was later restored for traffic, according to the district administration account carried by Pakhtun Digital.
