The ministry said the vessel was being used to supply the Ukrainian army, Reuters reported. Russian forces also hit a logistics centre, a distribution centre and a logistics terminal in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, and the ministry said the facilities had been used for storage and distribution of dual-use cargo for the Ukrainian military, Reuters reported.

AnewZ, reporting the same Russian Defence Ministry statement on Sunday, named the Kharkiv-region sites as the Epicentr logistics centre, a distribution centre and the Vasyshcheve logistics terminal, and said Moscow alleged the facilities were being used to store military or dual-use goods intended for Ukrainian forces. AnewZ also reported the ministry's separate claim that Russian air defences had intercepted and destroyed 532 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones across 25 Russian regions overnight.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the Russian Defence Ministry's information. AnewZ likewise noted that Moscow's claims about the vessel's cargo and the circumstances of the strike remain unverified. No Ukrainian confirmation of the claimed vessel or Kharkiv logistics strikes was reported in either source.

The claimed strike on a vessel heading for Chornomorsk brings Black Sea shipping back into focus in the Russia-Ukraine war, where both sides issue near-daily reports of overnight drone attacks that often cannot be independently verified because of the conditions of the war.
