A large explosion struck a weapons depot or warehouse near Saraqib, in Syria's Idlib province, on Monday, sending a massive fireball and thick plumes of smoke into the sky, TRT World reported. Footage showed secondary blasts and ammunition flying through the air, suggesting stored munitions had detonated.

Al Jazeera also carried video of the blast, saying Syrian social media accounts were circulating videos showing a large fire and thick plumes of smoke rising from a weapons depot in Idlib. Neither report gave a casualty figure.

A daily Syria news briefing for October 26, citing several local sources, gave a calmer account of the aftermath: it said the explosion in Saraqib was found to be caused by remnants of war, resulted in only material damage, and civil defence teams controlled the resulting fire. That is the local reporting on the cause; no official Syrian statement on the blast was carried in the reports.

Leftover munitions keep exploding across Syria
The Saraqib blast fits a pattern reported since September: a series of explosions at ammunition depots and sites holding leftover munitions across Syria, including some belonging to the Defence Ministry. Years of war have left large quantities of unexploded ordnance and stored ammunition around the country.
No deaths or injuries were reported from the Saraqib explosion in the TRT World, Al Jazeera or local-source reports available on Monday evening. Awaaz Punjab is not treating the fireball footage alone as evidence of an attack — on the reporting available, war remnants, not a strike, are the cited cause.
