TAIPEI — Taiwan's central bank said on Tuesday that strong technology demand would drive exports into next year, though economic growth in 2027 will likely moderate after this year's high base, Reuters reported.

In a report to lawmakers, the central bank said: “Looking ahead to next year, demand for emerging technology applications is expected to remain strong, which should continue to drive Taiwan's exports and private investment.” It forecast the economy to expand 5.82% next year, which it described as still representing steady growth.

The bank last month raised its 2026 economic growth forecast to 11.48%, from the previous prediction of 9.45% given in June, Reuters said. In its report to lawmakers, the central bank said geopolitical risks and weather conditions are the main uncertainties affecting the future trajectory of inflation in Taiwan.

Why Taiwan's tech exports matter globally

Taiwan is a major semiconductor manufacturer and home to TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker and a supplier to companies like Nvidia, which are powering the trend towards artificial intelligence, Reuters noted. That makes Taiwan's export outlook a closely watched signal for global technology supply chains.

Other forecasters have also pointed to a moderation to around 6% growth in 2027. Taiwan News, drawing on Focus Taiwan reporting, said the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER) raised its 2027 growth forecast to 5.97% from 3.71%, while forecasting 12.16% growth for 2026 — a different forecaster's estimate, not the central bank's figure.
