The collapsed structure was an extension of the main church building at Holy City Church, Brother Ronnie Makabai Ministries, in Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, along Entebbe Road. Preliminary police findings say the extension had reached the fourth floor before it came down.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said the person who died was Lukwago Francis, a builder. All 25 people rescued so far were adult males, she said, and they are receiving treatment at Kisubi Hospital and Entebbe Grade B Hospital.

In the first hours after the collapse, police said about 22 people had been rescued and taken to Entebbe Grade B Hospital, while joint teams from the Police Fire and Rescue Services and the Uganda People's Defence Forces searched the rubble.

Search continues, cause not yet known

Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as teams work to establish whether anyone is still trapped beneath the debris, police said. The cause of the collapse has not been established and investigations are under way.

As the rescue continued, large numbers of residents gathered outside the cordoned-off site demanding access to search for their loved ones, and some clashed with security officers at the scene, HICGI News Agency reported.
