KYIV — Russia attacked Ukraine with 126 strike drones overnight into Saturday, including 61 jet-powered models, Ukraine's Air Force said, in one of the latest large overnight barrages of the war, now in its fifth year.

The Air Force said the attack began at 6pm on Friday, October 23, with drones launched from Shatalovo, Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, from the temporarily occupied part of Donetsk region, and from Hvardiiske in occupied Crimea. Alongside Shahed-type attack drones, the force listed S8000 Banderol/Dan-T drones and Gerbera and Parody-type decoys.

According to preliminary Air Force data as of 8am Kyiv time, air defences shot down or suppressed 101 drones, including 50 of the jet-powered ones, while about eight attack drones were still in the air and combat operations were continuing. The defence was carried out by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic-warfare and unmanned-systems units and mobile fire groups, the Air Force said.

Impacts were recorded at 14 locations, and falling debris from downed drones was recorded at five more locations, the Air Force said. Its morning update did not report casualty figures for this attack, and Russia had not commented on the Air Force account in the reports available at the time of publication — all figures above are Ukraine's official account, attributed as such.

The barrage follows a similar large-scale operation on October 22, when, according to Ukrainian reporting, Russian forces deployed 210 drones in a combined strike against Ukraine — a pattern that has kept pressure on Ukraine's air defences and infrastructure through the autumn.
