A massive Russian attack on a thermal power station run by DTEK, Ukraine's largest private energy company, has caused serious damage and forced the plant to stop generating electricity, DTEK said in a statement on Friday.

Preliminary information indicates that none of the plant's staff were injured, DTEK said. The company is not disclosing the plant's location for security reasons.
The halt came during a wider overnight wave. Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 176 strike drones overnight on October 23, and that air defences neutralised or suppressed 140 of them, Ukrainian media outlet 112.ua reported, citing the Air Force. Strikes damaged energy, transport and civilian infrastructure and injured people, according to the reports.

Neighbouring Poland also reacted. Polish authorities sent warnings to residents in the Podkarpackie and Lublin regions and raised aircraft and air-defence measures in response to Russian strikes on western Ukraine, the Polish Press Agency reported via military news coverage. Polish officials described the measures as preventive and aimed at protecting Polish airspace, and said the warning itself did not mean an immediate threat to Polish territory.
A winter energy campaign, DTEK says
DTEK said the attack is part of a sustained bombing campaign since mid-August in which Russia has been striking thermal, combined heat-and-power and hydroelectric plants. DTEK says its thermal power plants have been attacked more than 230 times since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022.
DTEK teams are clearing debris and will begin repairs as soon as the site is made safe, the company said, adding that it is coordinating with Ukrenergo, Ukraine's national grid operator.
Plant halted: one DTEK thermal station, location undisclosed. Staff: no injuries in preliminary reports, DTEK said. Overnight wave: 176 drones launched, 140 neutralised or suppressed, Ukraine's Air Force said. Poland raised aircraft and air defences as a preventive step, Polish reports said.

What is only claimed
- The exact location of the damaged plant and the full extent of damage have not been independently verified — DTEK withheld the location for security reasons.
- Russia has not commented on this specific DTEK statement in the reports cited here.
