Saudi warplanes carried out airstrikes on Yemen's capital Sanaa and its surrounding governorate on Saturday, according to Houthi-run outlets, in the latest exchange of the renewed Saudi-Houthi fighting. The Health Ministry in Sanaa, which is run by the Houthi authorities, announced a preliminary toll of 10 people killed and 11 wounded, Al-Thawra Net reported. The ministry said a strike on a residential house in the Asr area of the capital killed three civilians and wounded three others.

A separate strike targeted a cement factory in the Hamdan district of Sanaa governorate, killing seven people — including a woman and a child — and wounding eight others, the ministry said, according to Al-Thawra Net. The ministry called the attacks a violation of international humanitarian law. Awaaz Punjab does not name or identify any of the dead, and no victim names were given in the reporting.

The figures differ between Houthi-run sources. The Houthi-run Al-Masirah channel, as reported by the South China Morning Post, said one strike on a house killed at least four people and a separate strike on housing for cement-factory workers killed six women, with a total of 11 reported killed in the Sanaa governorate. Saba News Agency, also Houthi-run, reported four killed at the Asr house and several killed and injured at the Hamdan cement factory. Because every toll so far comes from Houthi-run authorities and outlets, Awaaz Punjab reports them as those authorities' claims, not as independently verified counts.

Saturday's reported Sanaa strikes came shortly after the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted Houthi missiles aimed at Saudi cities, and as Houthi missiles struck Coast Guard facilities in Aden. The coalition's interception statements are reported here: Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted Houthi missiles aimed at Riyadh, Taif and Yanbu

No statement from the Saudi-led coalition confirming or addressing the Sanaa strikes appeared in the reporting consulted, and the strikes had not been independently verified by a non-Houthi source at the time of publication. This story will be updated if the coalition or an independent source reports on the Sanaa strikes. What is solid

  • The Houthi-run Health Ministry in Sanaa announced a preliminary toll of 10 killed and 11 wounded from strikes on a house in Asr and a cement factory in Hamdan — its statement, reported by Al-Thawra Net
  • Houthi-run Al-Masirah, via the South China Morning Post, reported 11 killed with different breakdowns — a second Houthi-run source whose figures do not fully match the ministry's

What is only claimed

  • That Saudi warplanes carried out these Sanaa strikes, and the casualty tolls themselves, rest entirely on Houthi-run authorities and outlets so far; no independent verification and no Saudi-led coalition statement on the Sanaa strikes appeared in the reporting
  • The breakdowns conflict: the ministry said three died at the house and seven at the factory including a woman and a child; Al-Masirah said at least four died at the house and six women at the factory housing
