Gurugram: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Gurugram Police has concluded that the collision that knocked woman motorcyclist Shivani Chauhan off her bike on September 13 was a calculated and intentional act, Mirror Now reported on Wednesday. The team examined footage from helmet-mounted cameras and found that the car driver deliberately rammed his vehicle into the victim's motorcycle after an earlier confrontation, the report said.

Chauhan, who is also known as Sia, was travelling with friends from Golf Course Road towards Extension Road when the incident took place. According to investigators, the driver of the white car had been following the group and making obscene gestures before the collision, which knocked her off the bike and sent her skidding across the road. The incident drew wide public attention after video evidence was shared on social media.

The accused, identified as Kalyan Baisla, had claimed that the collision was an accident caused by a loss of control near a U-turn. The five-member SIT, led by ACP (Crimes Against Women) Sushila, has rejected that account. A senior police officer said the evidence points to a deliberate assault rather than a traffic mishap. Inshorts, citing The Indian Express, also reported that the SIT concluded Baisla deliberately rammed his car into her motorcycle.

Chargesheet within a week, police say

Gurugram Police had registered an FIR against the occupants of the car under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions relating to attempt to murder, stalking and insulting the modesty of a woman. The SIT was formed under Police Commissioner Sibash Kaviraj following a notice from the Haryana Commission for Women. ACP Sushila said the chargesheet is expected to be filed in court within the coming week and will retain the serious charges set out in the FIR.

Investigators identified four people who were inside the car at the time of the incident. Baisla and his cousin Lavnish were apprehended in Rajgarh, in Rajasthan's Dausa district, on September 15, police said. Both remain in custody at Bhondsi jail in Gurugram after their bail requests were denied by the court.

The charges against the accused are allegations that will be tested in court. The accused has denied that the collision was deliberate, and his lawyer had earlier argued that the biker group itself created a dangerous situation on the road — a claim the SIT's findings now contradict, according to the police account.
