The passenger, Tanisha Sharma, said the Uber app displayed a fare of around Rs 625 for the journey. She alleged that after reaching her destination, the driver showed her a screenshot of a Rs 1,479 fare quote from another ride-hailing platform, Rapido, and demanded that she pay the higher amount, although she said she had already paid the amount shown on her Uber app.

Sharma alleged that the driver then locked the car and refused to let her retrieve her luggage unless she paid Rs 1,479. When she tried to take her belongings, he allegedly grabbed her arm and shut the front-seat window where her luggage was kept, trying to prevent her from removing it.

She alleged that after she managed to retrieve her bags and enter her home, the driver followed her, forced his way towards the gate, abused her and threatened her, and that she eventually locked herself inside her home. She also said she had been unable to access Uber's emergency support options during the encounter. The allegations have not been proved and are under investigation.

In response, an Uber official condemned the driver's behaviour and confirmed that he has been permanently barred from the platform, saying his actions were a severe violation of the company's community guidelines and pledging full cooperation with law enforcement, Mirror Now reported. On Wednesday, Inshorts, citing Hindustan Times, also reported that Uber had removed the driver's app access after Sharma filed an FIR in the case.
