The workers have been staging protests for the past 40 days over their demands. The decision to escalate the agitation to an indefinite strike followed the failure of a meeting with the administration on Friday evening, which was held under the chairmanship of SDM Jyoti Mittal and involved representatives of the roadways union and the administration.
About 260 buses from the Hisar and Hansi depots have been affected by the wheel-jam, Daily Kiran reported in a separate account of the strike. Early on Saturday, employees gathered at the main gate of the depot and blocked buses from leaving the premises; a bus scheduled to travel to Chandigarh in the morning was also prevented from leaving the workshop and the bus stand.

The employees' key demands include payment of night halt allowance, travel allowance (TA) and overtime wages. Rahul Mittal, General Manager of the Hisar depot, said efforts were ongoing to restore normalcy, according to Daily Kiran.
The employees have declared that the agitation will continue until their demands are met, which means commuters travelling by bus from Hisar and Hansi may face further disruption in the coming days.
