India's Aditya was crowned world champion in the men's 55kg category at the World Boxing U19 Championships in Budva, Montenegro, defeating Russia's Islam Magomedov 4-1 on points in the final on Tuesday, October 27, according to IANS and World Boxing, the tournament's governing body.

The Asian U19 silver medallist had to fight back after narrowly losing the opening round. "I was trailing 3-2 after the first round, but I stepped it up to take the next one 4-1. That's when the belief hit me that I could win this bout," Aditya said after the final, thanking his coaches and teammates. He had reached the title bout with a unanimous 5-0 win over Azerbaijan's Nihat Gasimov in the semifinals, after beating Italy's Tommaso Orlando in the quarterfinals.

Aditya is only the second Indian male boxer to win the World Boxing U19 title, The Bridge reported. His gold was India's lone title at this edition of the championships, which ran from October 16 to 27 and drew 474 boxers across 20 weight categories, according to World Boxing.

India's second finalist, Megha Sheokand, took silver in the women's 80kg category, losing 0-5 to Russia's Ekaterina Frolova in the final. Sheokand had reached the title bout with a referee-stopped-contest win over Kyrgyzstan's Meerim Chynybekova in the semifinals.

Two more Indians finished on the podium: Harshika won bronze in the women's 65kg category and Prachi Tokas took bronze in the women's 80+kg division. India ended the championships with four medals — one gold, one silver and two bronze — a smaller haul than the 17 medals of the previous edition, as stronger fields including Russia, Uzbekistan and China entered this time, The Bridge noted.
