A political row erupted in India on Tuesday after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut shared news on X of protesters setting fire to offices inside Albania's Supreme Court in Tirana and wrote that all countries should learn a lesson from the events, "especially India", saying the public had also attacked parliament and government offices.
ANI reported that Albania's anti-government protests had entered a sixth day, with 272 people injured since Tuesday in clashes involving water cannons, tear gas and rubber bullets, as protesters demand Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation.
BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari hit back on X, alleging the Congress and its alliance were "threatening anarchy and the Supreme Court" and were "a threat to Indian democracy" — an allegation by the BJP, not an established fact. BJP leader Kirit Somaiya also alleged, as reported by Inshorts, that Raut and the Thackeray Sena "want anarchy in India for regime change".
ANI reported Union Minister Kiren Rijiju alleged a foreign-backed strategy was being attempted in India and said regime change is possible "only through elections". Opposition leaders pushed back in the ANI report: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said "India is not Bangladesh and India is not France" and that the Opposition believes only in peaceful protest and free and fair elections, while Congress MP Pawan Khera accused the ruling party of weaponising European events to polarise voters.
