Redwood City, October 24 — Indian squash player Anahat Singh bowed out of the Silicon Valley Open after losing 1-3 to Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam in the semifinals, IANS reported. The 18-year-old from Delhi, ranked World No. 15, won the opening game 11-5 before the third-seeded World No. 4 recovered to win 5-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 in 37 minutes and reach the final.

Anahat fought back in the fourth game after falling 3-7 behind, narrowing the gap to a single point, but Subramaniam regained control at the crucial stage and closed out the match, according to the IANS report. PTI, via News18, gave the same scoreline — 11-5, 6-11, 4-11, 7-11 — and described it as Anahat's third defeat to the Malaysian in as many PSA Tour meetings.

Despite the loss, the campaign was a landmark one. Anahat produced one of the tournament's standout results by defeating top seed and eight-time world champion Nour El Sherbini of Egypt, the World No. 3, in straight games to reach the quarterfinals. She then beat Egypt's sixth seed Salma Hany 3-2 (4-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-2, 11-5) in 42 minutes to reach her maiden PSA Gold-level semifinal — the first by an Indian woman since Joshna Chinappa in 2019.
Subramaniam had also beaten Anahat in the women's singles final at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, where Anahat took silver and became the first Indian woman to reach that tournament's singles final, both IANS and RevSportz noted.
"Anahat is very talented and so dangerous. She's definitely amongst the top girls now, and she's still so young," Subramaniam said after the match, as quoted by the PSA website and reported by PTI. "Coming into today's match, I started a bit slow but got myself back into it, and I'm glad with the way I finished it."
