Anahat, ranked world No. 15, had reached the last eight after receiving a first-round bye and then defeating England's Saran Nghiem 11-6, 4-11, 11-5, 11-7 in the second round of the PSA Silver-level tournament, which carries a total prize purse of USD 103,750 — yaani about Rs 93 lakh.

The withdrawal is a setback in the middle of the best stretch of her young senior career. Last month Anahat won silver at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games — India's first-ever silver medal in women's squash — and last week she reached the semi-finals of the Silicon Valley Open, beating world No. 1 Nour El Sherbini and Salma Hany before losing to Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam.

There was no immediate word from her camp on how long the injury will keep her out. The revised quarter-final order of play in Toronto went ahead without her match on Wednesday evening local time.
