The decision follows the Supreme Court's direction on Wednesday that the SEC decide by October 22 on extending nomination deadlines wherever candidates were allegedly prevented from filing nominations due to law-and-order issues. A vacation bench of Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana had directed the poll panel to postpone publication of the final candidates' list — originally scheduled for October 21 — until October 25 and to examine complaints of violence, obstruction and electronic evidence, ANI reported.

The YSR Congress Party, which moved the Supreme Court, alleged that its candidates were intimidated, attacked or prevented from reaching nomination centres in places including Punganur, Rayachoti, Kadapa and Tirupati — allegations the SEC examined through reports from district collectors and police officials before extending the window in the four bodies, NationPress reported.
