The Indian Army has debunked a digitally altered video circulating on social media that falsely attributes fabricated remarks to Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, claiming that China has taken control of Asaphila, Longjou and Taksing Circle in Arunachal Pradesh and that Indian troops in the region have been denied essential supplies. The Army says the claims are false.

In a post on October 25, the Army's official fact-check account, Indian Army Fact Check (@MythbusterXX), said the video uses synthetic-generated information — AI-generated lip-syncing and voice cloning — overlaid on archival footage to portray the fabricated statements as a leaked admission by a senior officer.

According to the Army, the original footage is from a press briefing in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir, on October 27, 2023, when Kalia, then a Major General commanding the 28 Infantry Division, spoke about counter-infiltration operations along the Line of Control — reporting 10 foiled infiltration attempts, 27 terrorists eliminated and warlike stores and narcotics recovered. He made no statement about China or Arunachal Pradesh in that briefing, the Army said.

A pattern of disinformation

The Army described the clip as a disinformation pattern — an old military briefing combined with digitally manipulated remarks, false attribution and fabricated territorial claims — and urged social media users to verify the original source of military-related videos before sharing them.

The clarification comes as the clip circulated amid unrest over the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The Army's fact-check does not link the video's origin to any named actor; it states only that the remarks attributed to Lt Gen Kalia are fabricated.
