State-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) on Friday reported an almost 22 per cent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to about Rs 4,863 crore — yaani roughly Rs 48.6 arab — in the September quarter (Q2 FY27), as higher refining margins were offset by losses on the sale of petrol, diesel and LPG, The Hindu BusinessLine reported. The oil marketing company had reported a loss of about Rs 1,873 crore in the previous quarter.

On a standalone basis, net profit was Rs 4,993.17 crore, down 22.5 per cent from Rs 6,442.53 crore a year earlier, while revenue from operations rose 29.8 per cent to Rs 1,57,778.58 crore — yaani about Rs 1.58 lakh crore. Consolidated total income was about Rs 1.58 lakh crore, against Rs 1.23 lakh crore in Q2 FY26, according to the company's BSE filing reported by ScanX and BusinessLine.

"The lower profit during April-September 2026 is mainly due to suppressed marketing margin on certain petroleum products which was partially offset by higher refining margin," BPCL said in its filing. BusinessLine noted that public-sector oil marketers have been selling petrol, diesel and LPG below market rates to shield consumers from volatile prices amid the West Asia conflict, and that BPCL's cumulative under-recoveries on LPG widened to Rs 17,334.40 crore on September 30, 2026, from Rs 12,318.52 crore on March 31, 2026.
