New Delhi — Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, arrived in New Delhi on Sunday to participate in the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, the Russian Embassy in India said, according to ANI.

The Parliament of India will host the forum on October 26-27 at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi, under India's chairship, bringing together parliamentary leaders from BRICS member and partner countries to deliberate on people-centric development and strengthening parliamentary cooperation, IANS reported.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said earlier this week that the forum marks a new chapter in India's parliamentary diplomacy and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would attend the event and meet the leaders of the visiting delegations, IANS reported. A meeting of the secretaries of the delegations will be held on October 25 to finalise the Joint Statement of the forum, it added.

The forum will feature bilateral and multilateral interactions with visiting delegation leaders and parliamentary friendship groups, and will bring together presiding officers, Union ministers, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, presiding officers of state legislatures, MPs and other dignitaries, according to IANS.
