The two officials were named by the CBI as Enforcement Officer Deepak Kumar and Head Constable Manoj Dwivedi, both posted at the ED's Lucknow office. Dwivedi is a head constable serving there on deputation from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and is not an ED cadre officer, according to SSB Crack Exams' report of the CBI statement.
According to the CBI, the case was registered on Friday on a complaint alleging — this is an allegation, not a finding — that Dwivedi had demanded a bribe from the complainant's father in exchange for helping him in an ED case in which the father had received two summonses from the ED's Lucknow Zone in August and September 2026.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap the same day. The agency said Dwivedi was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 5,00,000 (yaani five lakh rupees) on behalf of Enforcement Officer Deepak Kumar, BureauGram reported. Both officials were then apprehended.

The two have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act, according to the reports. The CBI said further investigation is underway to establish the full extent of the alleged misconduct and whether any other officials were involved, and it urged citizens who face bribe demands from public servants to report them.
